Are you often worried because you accidently sent a really secret note to a printer used by everyone else? Ever had to explain why you printed out a black and white document on a printer which is only used for making color transparencies? Embarrased by co-workers for tieing up a critical office printer by printing out 50 copies of your Christmas card letter? If so, welcome to Printer Patrol, a small utility designed to keep you from making these network faux pas!
What does Printer Patrol do, you ask? Good question. Printer Patrol is a control panel which allows you to set up a list of your frequently used printers. If you print to one of these printers, Printer Patrol does nothing. If you try to print to a different printer, Printer Patrol puts up a simple alert pointing out that fact. That way you can change to the printer you really want if you've made a mistake. Everything is pretty bare bones, but the Printer Patrol control panel does support Balloon Help in case you can't figure it out for yourself.
Printer Patrol was written in a day, tested for about a week, and is System 7 only for those unfortunates who haven't upgraded. The cost? Another good question. We're sure Printer Patrol will save you lots of time, embarassment, and printer supplies. However, we doubt it will keep you from going bankrupt if that's the direction you're currently heading. For that reason, Printer Patrol is postcard-ware, which means we'd love to get a card back from you if you find Printer Patrol useful. Also, if you have any Mac programming needs, drop us a line.
Printer Patrol is available as postcard-ware described above, free of charge. Distribution of Printer Patrol for commercial purposes or as part of a share-ware or commercial package is prohibited without prior consent of the authors.
